TV News Analysis

The stories that were covered in the ABC News broadcast were about Bernie Sanders’ lead in the Democratic Candidacy after the Nevada Caucus, Donald Trump’s White House National Security Adviser denies Russia’s meddling to help Trump in the 2020 Presidential Election, a Deadly Bus Crash in Southern California tragically leaving 3 people dead and 18 injured, COVID-19 pandemic concerns, fears that more Americans could get infected, the mother of two missing children was arrested and is facing multiple charges, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were denied the use of the “Royal” brand for moving outside England. The stories that were covered on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah were about Jussie Smollett being indicted for lying to police about being the victim of a hate-crime, Roger Stone was going to be sentenced for lying to the FBI and threatening witnesses but Trump tweeted late at night that the 7 to 9 years was horrible and very unfair. This influenced the DOJ’s decision but Trump denied that he had anything to do with it. The Titanic was hit by a submarine and the U.S. government kept it a secret. The Top Story for the show was about the New Hampshire Democratic Primary and how Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg were the winners of the night but a dark-horse was introduced in Amy Klobuchar finishing third. The best part of the ABC broadcast was about the mother of the two missing children getting arrested, I’ve been following this case for awhile and think that the parents of these two children are some of the worst people ever, they seem to not even care that their children are missing. The best part of the Daily Show broadcast was about the Titanic being hit by a submarine and the government hiding it from the public and Noah joked about it in the segment. I busted out laughing because the government hid something that small from the public. I prefer to watch The Daily Show with Trevor Noah because with the news in 2020 being so outlandish, you need to have a little satire in your life or you’ll go insane from the constant worry and disappointment that will overcome you and I’ve been watching the show since Jon Stewart was the host. I believe there are sites that have a bias and I’m sure that ABC News has been called out in the past for bias coverage but I would say that the coverage in the ABC News coverage that I watched seemed to be fair, accurate, objective reporting. There weren’t any personal opinions on any of the stories, just the facts of the stories were mentioned. I thought they did a great job of showing professionalism. The most important stories of the broadcast were given the most time by ABC. I believe they are doing the work of journalism because they’re telling the latest news but in the satire way for the audience to laugh in the expense of the events that happened that week or the day of the filming. I think they avoid being labeled as journalists because I think they want to be known as comedians who are just making bits and jokes about the news and want journalism/journalists to be held to a higher standard, as it should be. I honestly believe there’s a time and place for the two to be mutually exclusive and it depends on the matter of the situation. I think the news should be fun but that doesn’t mean everything that is happening in the world should include satire. There’s a lot of horrific things happening in the world that should be reported on seriously but then there’s a lot of things like the Titanic Submarine wreck that should be made fun of because of how ridiculous it is for the U.S. government to hide it from the public. I don’t know if there is anything that traditional broadcast news outlets can learn about “The Daily Show” and “Last Week Tonight” because I don’t know if they’re willing to change any of the formats that they use anyway because its always been the same kind of coverage.
